Dr Catherine Clarissa
Welcome to my website
About me
I'm a Registered Nurse (RN) in Indonesia and the UK. My current role is as a Lecturer in Nursing (Life Sciences) in Nursing Studies at the University of Edinburgh and a member of the Nursing Now Challengers' Committee. In this committee, I'm the co-chair and the board member.
I'm also Sigma’s Nightingale Challenge scholar. I was part of the second cohort and this programme was a year-long leadership development for 45 young nurse leaders from 10 countries around the world. Additionally, I'm a Nurse Leader member of Sigma Omega Xi Chapter.
As a nurse by background, I am most passionate about SDG 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all age). I would like to contribute to tackling the global health burden of stroke, particularly in young adults. I completed the U21 Global Citizenship Course last year.
I am open to research collaboration and opportunities that match my research interests, skills and experience. Feel free to get in touch if you would like to see a copy of my CV. I also welcome any questions and discussions for potential collaborations.

As an intensive care nurse by background, I’ve had a passion for improving the outcomes of critically ill patients. My research interests lie in the area of the recovery of critically ill people and young adults' stroke rehabilitation. My other interests include:
Post-intensive care syndrome
Intensive care unit delirium
Science communication
Social media research
Evidence synthesis
Realist evaluation
My doctoral research
My doctoral thesis aims to contribute to a better understanding of early mobilisation in mechanically ventilated patients. I conducted a systematic integrative review on the definition and activities of early mobilisation. I also carried out a constructivist grounded theory study, looking at processes and experiences of staff involved in early mobilisation practice.
